The Le Mans Collection

LE MANS WINNERS 1949-2013

Le Mans is the world's oldest active sports car endurance race. Le Mans is a unforgiving beast. Race teams have to balance speed against the cars' ability to run for 24 hours without sustaining mechanical damage to the car and manage the cars' consumption of fuel, tires, brakes, gearbox and clutch wear, engine revs, etc. The endurance of the drivers is likewise tested as drivers frequently spend stints of over two hours behind the wheel, driving with slower traffic, often through both heat and rain. always through darkness. It is truly an endurance effort of both man and machine.

Presented here are the winners of Le Mans since WWII, the survivors of the 24 hour endurance race. A maximum of fifty-two cars start the race, but that number dwindles as the race progresses, to where as few as seven cars (1967) may finish the entire race.

PLEASE NOTE: From 1968 into the 1990's tobacco companies sponsored many significant race cars. In the interest of historical accuracy, Old Irish Racing chooses to display models in our collection as historically accurate as possible. While seeing a tobacco advert on a car gives me no more desire to go smoke than seeing a car makes me want to go suck on its exhaust pipe. If tobacco (or alcohol) adverts on race cars offend you, please go look at nice pictures of bunnies and kittens on another site.
