The Le Mans Collection
LE MANS COLLECTION (1923 - Present)

I have always been enthralled with Le Mans for as long as I can remember. The reasons why are hard to adequately put into words, but I shall try.

Le Mans has never been the most exciting race on the calendar, although it has had its moments. Le Mans is not the most glamerous race, set in the French countryside rather than in some jet set paradise such as Monoco. More often than not, it is not run in the best weather, but that to me is part of its allure. To me, the attraction of Le Mans is the ultimate struggle that takes place over a day. Man pressing the limits of his endurance, and the endurance of his machine. Le Mans is a race around the clock. In its 24 hours, drivers must face the ultimate of their ability to persevere in light and darkness, in faster and slower traffic while trying to maintain their pace, weather than can be both hot and then torrential rain.

Le Mans has not been the favorite of many top drivers. Some of the worlds best drivers have excelled here as they mastered the balance between speed and preserving their machine. Yes, the machine. Some of the greatest cars ever designed and built have raced at Le Mans to achieve the ultimate triumph and tribute to their ability to go fast and to endure. At Le Mans there has been great victory and just as often, bitter defeat.

Le Mans to me is a great epic human drama. It is where dreams are shattered, but when all goes right, it is where great dreams come true. Here is my collection of 1/43 scale model cars that have raced at Le Mans, some in victory, some in obscurity, in my book every one of them are winners.

PLEASE NOTE: From 1968 into the 1990's tobacco companies sponsored many significant race cars. In the interest of historical accuracy, Old Irish Racing chooses to display models in our collection as historically accurate as possible. While seeing a tobacco advert on a car gives me no more desire to go smoke than seeing a car makes me want to go suck on its exhaust pipe. If tobacco (or alcohol) adverts on race cars offend you, please go look at nice pictures of bunnies and kittens on another site.
