The great juniper and ivy removal project - Spring 2009 and the beginning of making the landscaping more natural.

Before, During and After

Before the project began, plenty of old growth juniper and hardy English ivy in the landscaping. Click on any photo to see an enlarged image. Su and Shawn have done almost all the work.

Progress as of Memorial Day 2009
What we did on a sunny Memorial Day weekend... Attacking the last of the ivy. It initially took seven full trailer loads to haul away just the juniper, and three more to haul away the ivy this weekend!

Su built the small retaining wall and filled in the slope behind for future flower bed use. No more ivy up against the house!

Su and Shawn laid stone steps up to the top of the yard and Su has begun planting ground cover and other plants. The grass will come out soon to make room for more plantings and garden. We will extend the stone wall all the way across later this summer

The start of the dry creek bed. This arm actually has spring water running under the rocks.

The old stairway up from the street was found during juniper removal, a new one will be built between the creek arms. The other arm of the dry creek will run down this side of the yard. Got to do something to hide the heat pump!

Progress as of mid-June 2009
Su has begun the process of planting along the first creek. Ferns, moss, sorrel, ducks foot, vine maple, just some of the plants along the creek bank. These plants were dug from the forest (with permit!) and transplanted here.

The second creek (which runs East). We collected the rocks for the second creek from the Creek House (Su's place). Su dug out the creek bed and single handedly placed all the rocks! Emi, Shawn and Rhett while collecting rocks from Mosby Creek to use for the second creek.

Progress as of late-June 2009

Building a stairway to heaven...
July 9, 2009 - Su took the day and beagn the process of building the stairs from the street to the house on Tigertail Ridge. We will finish the rest this weekend.
